November 9th. is the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was fortunate enough to have been in Berlin during those dramatic days in 1989. Here are a small selection of documentary photographs I took on 9th and 10th.

Graffiti on the Berlin Wall. One line says: "Love is thicker than concrete".

Love is …

Night photo. Car wide gap in the Berlin Wall lined with barriers. Several uniformed men beside barriers and in the road.

On the Berlin Wall

I’ve included these grainy images for their historical significance. On the right is a photo I took sitting on top of the Berlin Wall. On the left is my view looking down at a ladder against the Berlin Wall as people gather to come up and join me.

Sitting on the Berlin Wall

If anyone had tried this just a few nights before, they would have been arrested or possibly shot. But on this glouruis night we celebrated and the guards on the other side were, finally, powerless to stop us.

Large tightly packed crowd of people of all ages, some looking concerned.

The Gift

The day after the Wall fell, hundreds of East Berliners crossed the border.
Huge crowds formed to receive a gift from the West; a packet of coffee and chocolate bar.

Tightly packed crowd, many with arms stretched out in front of them.
